Your login credentials for crisiscleanup.org and the Crisis Cleanup App (iOS, Android) are the same. We are not in the habit of sending marketing emails or announcements. If we start doing those things, we will give you the ability to opt out in your profile.
If you would like to remove your account, you have a few options:
Option 1: Ignore your account
Fortunately, disasters are rare in any single location. It is not uncommon for someone to not use their Crisis Cleanup account for a couple of years before needing it again. Ignoring your account will not cause any harm, unless you believe it has been compromised. If so, please change your password to something very complex, and let us know. We will secure your account.
Option 2: Leave your organization
Leaving your organization will effectively deactivate your account. You will be able to log in, but you will not have access to any of the site features, incidents, or be able to update cases. To leave your organization:
- Visit the User Management page.
- Search for your name, then click on your account. It should load on the right side of the screen.
- In the top-right corner of your user profile, click the trash icon:
- This will remove your account from your organization, but you will be able to join a new organization in the future if someone invites you.
Option 3: De-identify your account
You are always welcome to change your name or contact information in your profile. Keep in mind, however, that if you change your email address to a fake email address and later forget your password, there will be no way for you to recover your account. Also, if you choose a fake email address already in the system, you will probably receive an error.
Option 4: Request Deletion
If you are absolutely sure that you want to delete your account, submit a helpdesk ticket. Be sure to use the email address you're trying to delete. We will take care of it for you, typically within 48 hours. If we're in the middle of a major disaster, give us up to 10 business days; but we promise we'll do it.
We want to be transparent about what "deleting" means, and limitations to deletion. Unfortunately, deleting an account is not as easy as deleting a file on your hard drive. When we delete your account, we will:
- Remove your name phone number from our production servers.
- Replace your email address with a fake email address that nobody can access.
- Remove your account from your current organization.
- Invalidate your account, making it impossible for you or anyone else to access it.
- Make your contact information unavailable to any other organizations or users.
This is a permanent change and cannot be undone. We cannot:
- Remove all personal information from backups, though we do not use backups except in the case of catastrophic failure.
Policy Effective: March 16, 2024.
